International Women’s Day Customer Spotlight: Inspire Book Box

In celebration of International Women’s Day, we at BizCover are putting a spotlight on some of the amazing female small business owners that we are privileged to call our customers.

Seeing the benefits of reading to children, Roxanne Gread created her small business Inspire Book Box with the aim of making reading fun for children and their parents.

Inspire Book Box is an educational subscription box for children, filled with a range of books and activities including craft and games. With the purpose of encouraging children to read, each box is curated by a team of teachers, parents, occupational therapists and children.

Roxanne’s inspiration to start her business stemmed from her own experiences as a mother. She found that despite the considerable benefits of reading to her children, it was difficult to find the right book for them as well as plan activities around it later, especially when juggling other tasks as a working mum.

“I knew how important reading aloud to your child was so I searched for a solution” she says, and Inspire Book Box was borne out of this need that many parents seemed to share.

In building her small business, Roxanne says her favourite part has been “helping parents and grandparents to build a fantastic high quality and diverse kids library…” and instilling a love of reading in children, while also building on and strengthening each parent’s time with their child. She also enjoys the ability to set flexible work hours, and working “with a team of other women to create wonderful, bookish play”.

“Being a female small business owner to me means following my passion and working in a field I am extremely excited and driven in… With the support of my team, I can homeschool my boys whilst also running a successful business.”

Roxanne cites her mother and grandmother as sources for her inspiration, but also women who follow their passions and balance motherhood with work.

Celebrating International Women’s Day and our female small business owners, we asked Roxanne what advice she would give women who wanted to start their own business, just like she did. You can bet she mentioned passion!

“When starting your own business make sure it’s something you are extremely passionate about, as in the beginning, you will eat, breathe and sleep your business dream!”
