Regional physio brings healthcare direct to the community with $5,000 grant

At BizCover, we love supporting small Aussie businesses. That’s why we run the BizGiver $5,000 small business grant twice a year: to give hard-working business owners a leg up and help them achieve their goals.

We’re excited to announce Josh from Tidal Motion Physiotherapy and Allied Health as the latest BizGiver $5,000 grant recipient. Josh applied for funding to invest in portable diagnostic equipment and exercise tools, helping him deliver pop-up healthcare clinics to under-served communities across the Coffs Harbour region.

This is Josh’s success story.

What first drew you to healthcare?

Josh has always worked in the healthcare space and is incredibly passionate about helping his clients. But he remembers one clear, pivotal moment where he believes he was set on that path.

“I was a really sick kid, which meant that because of my medication and being unable to play sport, I put on a lot of weight,” he says. “And then one day I did the old ‘Forrest Gump.’ I just felt like running.”

Josh explains that, after this moment, he awakened his passion for health and wellbeing, as well as the science of sport and exercise.

“Our motto at Tidal Motion is that we help people relieve pain and rediscover life,” says Josh.

What keeps you motivated each day?

Josh is driven by curiosity, community connection, and a genuine love for what he does.

“The human body is the craziest thing that I’ve ever seen,” says Josh exuberantly. “I love everything about it, and I love helping people support the best versions they can be when it comes to their health.”

Josh also admits that he still loves learning, and that he is motivated every day to continue improving his knowledge as a physio so that he can better support his community. Each day presents new challenges, new patients, and new opportunities to expand his knowledge.

“We [at Tidal Motion] are really passionate about helping people not live a life in pain, and making sure they can keep doing the things they love.”

Why did you enter the BizGiver $5,000 small business grant competition?

Working across the Coffs Harbour region, Josh regularly travels to patients’ homes and sees firsthand the barriers many people face when trying to access care. While his mobile services already help bridge that gap, there are still areas that remain difficult to reach consistently.

That’s where the idea of pop-up clinics began to take shape. Instead of trying to stretch resources thin across long distances, Josh envisioned bringing care into these communities in a more structured, scalable way – by setting up temporary clinics where multiple people could be assessed and supported in one visit.

But first, he needed to invest in new, portable tools and equipment that could bring this idea to life.

“We already had our idea… the BizGiver grant for equipment really suited us and would help us deliver that to the community.”

What advice do you have for Australian small business owners thinking of entering BizGiver?

Josh admits that he entered the BizGiver grant competition with less than a week to go before submissions ended. Because of the tight turnaround, Josh didn’t see a reason to overcomplicate things. The idea was already there – he just needed to articulate it and create a one-minute video explaining what he wanted to spend the grant on and why.

“It’s definitely something anyone can do,” Josh says of entering the grant competition. “It really just comes down to having a clear idea and being able to explain it.”

More than anything, he sees BizGiver as an opportunity to think bigger about what your business could achieve.

“The competition opens you up to be creative, to think about solutions to problems and how you could make a bigger impact. How would this [grant] really help not only me…but as many people as possible?”

You could be the next BizGiver grant recipient

“It’s a fantastic way to get your ideas out there, put them into the world, and see how you can grow those ideas to benefit your community,” says Josh of the BizGiver grant competition.

The latest BizGiver small business grant competition is running from 28 April to 26 May 2026 11.59pm AEST. Entering the competition is simple: create a one-minute video telling us about a product or service that will help you with your business. This could be related to opening a new revenue stream or just helping to make everyday operations easier. Or, in Josh’s case, it could be about focusing on how you can better serve your community and customers.
