Training, teaching and team-leading: Andrew Farrugia is an expert in customer care with a knack for sales. As BizCover Sales Team Leader, Andrew’s role involves him managing and directing a team of dedicated sales agents who are constantly on the hunt for new businesses to add to the BizCover clientele.
Over the two years that Andrew has worked at BizCover, he credits the dynamic and energetic work environment for constantly challenging him. Not only does the variety of his role keep him energised, but it also has him excited to step into the office and motivate his team on a daily basis.
A born leader, Andrew swaps his sales team for a first grade AFL squad outside of the office. The boots and the brawn attracted Andrew to the sporting field from a young age, playing Rugby League for 11 years before switching codes and taking up AFL more recently. “I decided to change and there were two options, soccer or AFL. I picked AFL and haven’t looked back since,” he explains.
Looking back on his AFL career, Andrew recalls many fond experiences that he’s been able to share with his team. Playing at a first-grade level, Andrew has not only been able to reach a grand final but also take out a title. Looking back across the seasons, he also considers the opportunity to captain his team as one of the highlights of his time playing, as well as when he won Player of the Year.
Andrew says that having AFL as such a physical escape from the office helps him maintain a healthy work-life balance and keeps his social life in check. He views the lessons he’s learnt from participating in a team sport as not only applicable but also beneficial to his role at BizCover. “…Leadership, conflict resolution, communication, patience and acceptance,” are the skills that AFL has helped him refine.
As passionate as he is about AFL, the future of BizCover is something that keeps Andrew on his toes. He recognises the opportunities that lie ahead for his career and for the company.
As far as Andrew sees it, BizCover is only going to get bigger and better.
