The Nonsense Makers Wins BizGiver Grant

Here at BizCover we seek to recognise and reward small businesses owners who go above and beyond for their customers. For creatives like Sidonie & Emily, they love providing their customers with a wide range of beautiful art designs and cards.

The $2,000 BizGiver grant is awarded each quarter to better the lives of small business owners and facilitate growth through a product or service. In this round of BizGiver Australia received a plethora of entries, making it highly difficult to select a winner. During our selection process, we provide a space for small business owners to share their story and tell us how they plan to use the grant. At BizCover, we take this grant seriously. We share all the finalists’ stories with our staff and invite everyone to vote for who they think should receive the grant.

Congratulations to Sidonie & Emily for being the latest recipient of the BizGiver grant. With BizCover, they have obtained Business Insurance for their small business. We are proud to support Sidonie & Emily through their journey!

We interviewed Emily & Sidonie about their passion for helping others and the significance of the grant. Here is their story.

When did you start your business?

The Nonsense Maker started as a way for our artist Emily May to share her whimsical imagination with the world, inspired by her nonsense-making alter ego!

Why did you enter the BizGiver competition? Why did you wish for your particular wish?

We wished for an A2 size fine art printer so we could expand our art print range.

How will winning this prize help your business?

We have customers asking for large format art prints all the time, so it will be wonderful to be able to offer them! We have also started making wedding invitations and wedding stationery, so we will also be able to offer posters and seating charts to those customers as well.

What does being a small business owner mean to you?

We love our little brand, and the supportive community of other artists and small business owners we have around us. There is a great culture of helping each other out and bringing each other up that we think is quite unique to the small business world.

Why do you love your job?

It is so amazing that we get to come into work each day and do something we are so passionate about. It can be difficult at times and a little scary, but at the end of the day it is really rewarding knowing we can overcome the challenges and see all our hard work paying off in the long run!

Where do you see your business in 5 years’ time? What are your growth goals?

We hope to be selling our products internationally within 5 years.

What are the biggest challenges your business faces? Will winning the prize help?

As our business grows, we are challenged with the task of scaling our product range. As we print everything ourselves, having better equipment such as the new printer will play a big part in keeping up with the growing demand. Our old printer sometimes breaks down leaving us unable to fulfill orders and keep our customers happy.

What have been your biggest achievements?

Last year we reached a stage where we could have both of us (Emily and Sidonie) working at The Nonsense Maker full time. This has been a goal of ours for years and it was exciting to be able to reach a level where we could sustainably support us both.
