Mobile Food Truck Business wins a new sparkling make-over with the latest BizGiver Small Business Grant.

In March 2016, two friends Karina and Vicky started their own Market and Festival business, Suga & Spice, after both enjoying sharing their love of cooking with each other.

“We both have a passion for food, especially the food our mums have taught us, as well as our own sweet creations,” explains Vicky.

Both coming from families who immigrated to Australia in the 70s’ (Karina’s family hailing from Chile, while Vicky’s family came from Egypt), have built their business around offering tailored menus for events, festivals and markets.

“Initially we started making Gingerbread house, Gluten-free chocolate and almond houses, biscuits, brownies and rocky road, catering on site.”

A short while later, Suga and Spice are operating a marquee at events, markets and now even a food van.

“Our goal in the next five years is to have upgraded from our van to a little ‘Suga & Spice’ Cafe,” states Vicky.

This goal is now even closer, thanks to the BizGiver Small Business Grant.

The BizGiver Small Business Grant is an initiative started by BizCover Insurance, which grants the wish of small businesses of up to $2000 value.

Started in 2015, the grant was started as a way to give back to the Small Business community.

“We’re constantly blown away by the dedication, sacrifice and commitment these unsung heroes’ put into their work and the BizGiver program aims to remove some of the simple barriers to growth that business owners face every day,” states BizCover Co-founder and Managing Director, Michael Gottlieb.

Since its inception in 2014, the program has given over $60,000 in prizes away to over 30 small businesses from throughout Australia.

These prizes have included coffee machines, training courses, SEO packages, websites, toolkits, white goods and laptops.

For Suga & Spice, their win has granted them some much need electrical work on their food truck.

“Our biggest challenge to date has always been the start-up costs and the van renovation costs,” explains Vicky, “Winning means that we can get our electrical work done and can attend events, markets and food truck park festivals.”

Entry is currently open for the latest round of BizGiver. Wishes simply need to be invoiceable to be eligible.
