$5,000 Small Business Grant Fuels Inclusive Design at Crocodile Crocodile

Founded in 2008, BizCover set out with a clear mission: to make buying business insurance simple, fast, and hassle-free for small business owners. But supporting small businesses goes beyond insurance. That’s why we created the BizGiver Small Business Grant.

The BizGiver grant gives small business owners the chance to win $5,000 to invest in their growth. The competition runs twice a year, with finalists chosen through a public vote. From there, the BizCover team selects the ultimate winner, helping one deserving business turn their dream into reality.

We are thrilled to announce the most recent winner of the BizGiver Small Business Grant is Crocodile Crocodile. Clayton McIntosh is the owner and operator of Crocodile Crocodile, a design business he says does “all things creative around inclusion.” This covers graphic design, content creation, and brand and design consultations.

Clayton is a passionate advocate for accessibility and inclusion, and he asked for a high-quality professional camera as his BizGiver grant request. This camera will allow him to film and interview people with disabilities, helping them share their stories, advocate for themselves, and raise awareness. At the same time, this will help support the growth of his inclusive design business.

This is Clayton’s success story.

What motivated you to start Crocodile Crocodile?

Clayton started his career in design as an animator. “It was always my dream as a kid to be an animator. But it was missing that purpose I was looking for.”

Clayton felt like he could be doing more for others with his work – specifically people with accessibility issues who often get overlooked during the design process and are therefore excluded. This could be anything from a children’s playground to a company’s website.

“I wanted to start a business that aligned to my values and matched my skillset,” says Clayton. “Running my own business allows me to do the things that I think are important.”

Why is inclusion so important in design?

For Clayton, design isn’t just about the way something looks: it’s about how it works for everyone. He believes too many environments, products, and experiences unintentionally leave people out because accessibility isn’t considered early enough in the process.

“It comes from this belief that all people are equal, but sometimes people are left out,” explains Clayton. “I believe that good design is design that starts with accessibility and inclusion and makes sure that everyone – regardless of their ability or background – is being considered in that design.”

This philosophy is at the heart of Crocodile Crocodile’s work. By prioritising accessibility from the very beginning, Clayton ensures that design becomes a tool for connection rather than exclusion. His approach highlights how inclusive design not only benefits those with disabilities but also creates richer, more welcoming experiences for all.

Why did you enter the BizGiver competition?

Clayton asked for a new, professional, digital camera in his BizGiver grant request. As someone passionate about advocating for inclusivity, Clayton’s plan is to film and interview people with disabilities to help tell their stories. This elevates voices that may otherwise go unheard, and helps other people understand why inclusivity and accessibility are so important.

“I have the skills and experience, but I didn’t have the tools [to film with],” says Clayton. “Hearing from someone with a different story to you can be a powerful way to form a connection and encourage empathy and understanding.”

Clayton also hopes to use his new camera to promote his burgeoning design business. “It’s going to be a big game changer being able to film things with such a high-quality camera,” he says. “There are things that you just can’t do with your smartphone.”

What advice do you have for small business owners thinking of entering the next BizGiver round?

Clayton was specifically trying to find information on small business grants when he came across the BizGiver competition – and he has an insider tip for anyone thinking of entering the competition.

“I recommend adding some excitement [to your entry video] and a few jokes. I reckon that’s maybe what gave me the edge.”

Clayton was overjoyed to discover how many people backed his entry and helped him to take home the $5000 grant.

“What I’ve learned is that people love to hear your story. They love to get behind you, and they want you to win. But it also helped people find out what I’m up to and what Crocodile Crocodile is about.”

Enter the BizGiver competition now for your chance to win $5000
