It’s that day of the year that chocolate lovers all around the globe look forward to more than anything, yes, it’s World Chocolate Day.
To celebrate, BizCover wanted to feature one of the many sweet businesses that work in the world of chocolate.
We spoke to Daniel Koch, the founder of Sacred Taste, about his unique line of drinking cacao.
Sacred Taste is a producer of premium, organic, gluten free, dairy free, refined sugar free & preservative free drinking cacao. The Melbourne-founded business was started out of a need to create healthy hot chocolate. This is done by hand blending raw Peruvian cacao with plant-based whole food ingredients, which results in a unique and delicious, healthy drinking cacao range.
Based on a foundation of wellness and sustainability, Daniel views it as Sacred’s responsibility to deliver the most delicious, sustainable and healthy cacao whilst taking care of the planet and its people.
According to Daniel, the inspiration to start the business came from a Sacred place.
“Once used by the Ancient Mayans as a spirit bridge to other realms, cacao has been considered sacred for thousands of years. Today, we use it in daily practices to enhance cognitive function, improve health and well being and to deepen our connection with ourselves, each other and the planet.”
Daniel’s favourite thing about his job is seeing people’s reactions when they try their cacao for the first time. “Seeing them enjoy the taste of our cacao whilst witnessing the profound effect it has on them is very rewarding for me. It’s our mission to leave this planet in a better state than when we found it, and to do the same for people.” he said. His second favourite thing? – Drinking all the cacao of course!
Sacred Taste cacao comes in 4 flavours, Earth (original), Fire (chilli), Love (rose), Vitality (mint), and when asked which one was his favourite flavour, he replied “it depends on the time of day.”
“Fire is a great way to start the day as the cinnamon and cayenne pepper stimulates the digestive system and turns on your metabolism. Vitality contains matcha and mint which are both stimulants, great for when you want to get things done. Love is perfect for an after dinner treat and Earth is just great anytime!“
Daniel’s secret to keeping their customers coming back for more is by simply producing authentic, high quality products with exceptional service – not to mention, a dedicated and detailed focus on the planet.
All their products are handmade using ethical, sustainable and fair trade cacao, packed using recycled, eco friendly paper, printed with plant based inks using solar power and delivered worldwide using a carbon neutral courier company.
On top of that, each pack is 100% home compostable, and for every pack bought they purchase and protect Amazonian rainforest through a charitable organisation called Rainforest Rescue.
With it being World Chocolate Day, we had to ask Daniel what his favourite thing about chocolate was – and in his very scientific and sensible response we learned that chocolate is actually very good for you!
“Cacao is the un-heated version of cocoa, and in its raw form, chocolate is one of nature’s most nutrient dense superfoods. It is one of the richest sources of antioxidants, magnesium, iron, calcium and zinc, and also contains theobromine – a chemical compound that produces happiness – so how can you not love it!?”
Being the innovative small business owner he is, Daniel was sure to have some sage advice for those who are considering starting their own business.
“Be smart, plan for the best, expect the worst, cover all bases and ensure you’re having a good time. Keep a keen focus on customer service and the people, remember your reasons why, follow your heart and use your businesses as a vehicle to serve others and it will serve you!”
