NEIS Customer Spotlight – HerbiDoor

For some, life shows no signs of slowing down. Even the simple task of preparing and cooking meals is quickly becoming a laborious task – so it’s no wonder that meal delivery services are becoming more popular with each passing day. With few options operating in Queensland and Northern NSW, someone finally stepped up to the plate.

Today we are looking at one of our NEIS customers, HerbiDoor.

HerbiDoor is a convenient solution for people looking for premade, plant-based comfort meals delivered to their door. They specialise in home style cooked meals including stroganoff, pastas, lasagna, curries, and different cuisines from around the globe.

Matt Goss, the founder of HerbiDoor was inspired to start the business when he saw an opportunity to bridge the gap between health foods, such as salads, and the massive rise of vegan junk food. He also identified a need for people who are looking to transition to a meat free lifestyle who might not know or have the time to shop, prepare and cook great tasting vegan food.

Matt says his favourite part about his job are the little things, whether it’s just getting to chat with his clients, “WOW-ing” them with free meal upgrades, and the pleasure he takes in creating both a product and service that they can grow with.

When asked what it is that keeps his customers coming back for more, Matt believes, that in the food industry, people only come back because they either: really like the food, and/or they want to be able to participate in an open conversation about how to improve aspects of the service. Echoing earlier sentiments about his love of just chatting to clients, he added: “not treating customers like numbers and as an opportunity to evolve, is key.”

The Gold Coast hadn’t seen anything like HerbiDoor before, and so it was quickly covered by the local media. 7 News Gold Coast ran a brief profile on Matt and his delivery service, which judging by the overwhelmingly positive reception from locals on the Facebook post, it would have surely helped out the growing business.

HerbiDoor has also received countless 5-star reviews on their Facebook page. One elated customer left a glowing review, saying:

“Got my first order this week and only ordered a few dishes to just give it a try! The stroganoff was absolutely amazing as were the other two dishes I tried. This week I’ve doubled my order and am ordering for other people too! You’ve made my life so much easier, being vegetarian it’s been a real struggle to find quality home delivered meals with variety and choice! You tick all the boxes I was looking for. Can’t wait to receive my meals next week. Keep up the great work!”

Matt had a lot of great advice to offer those who are looking to start their own business:

“Nothing is perfect or ever will be, so make it great enough for the market and then ask your customers for feedback on what they loved and how to make it better. Then you have something they will come back for time and time again.

Matt warns that you need the drive to do whatever it takes to get the job done. “My customers prepay for their meals and there have been times where cooking has been completed in the early hours of the morning, I’ll have a few hours of sleep and then hit the road to deliver their meals, only to come home and get started on back of house business activities.”

“Working hard yields results, sitting back pointing the finger or hoping for a miracle will eventually break both you and the bank.”

“Plan ahead, learn, adjust and systemise.”
