Our BizCover office is filled with dedicated and passionate team members, that are committed to helping our business, and yours. In BizCover By Day we celebrate some of our extraordinary team members, in and outside the office.
Xarier Wong gives the title Data Analyst a whole new meaning. Extracting and analysing data by day and taking on the 70s street dance, ‘locking’, by night, he’s far from your average data guru.
Xarier joined the BizCover analytics team just over two years ago. He describes his average day at work as a mixture of report automation and data extraction and sometimes working around the clock to bring the latest insights and opportunities to the BizCover team.
In the office, Xarier’s role provides him with the opportunity to work across a range of sectors, “I often work with people from different teams including Sales, Marketing, and IT. BizCover has many people who come from different backgrounds and cultures, so there’s always something new to learn about each other.”
After hours, the dance floor takes Xarier’s mind off the data. He was introduced to the 70s street dance style of ‘locking’ after his friend shared a video of the famous Japanese locking duo, Hilty & Bosch… “I watched that video more than 50 times that day.”
It wasn’t long after that Xarier attended a workshop by an original member of, ‘The Lockers’, Tony Gogo, that he was truly inspired to learn more about the dance and its culture.
Xarier’s dance took on a whole level in 2012, when the president of SoulXPress, the University of Sydney’s Hip Hop Society, invited him to join. This meant that Xarier could begin to learn and share his love for dance.
He met his partner during this time, as well as many new people who he now can call good friends, including a fellow BizCover employee!
Among becoming president of the society a year later, Xarier regards this time and the life-long friends he’s made as one of the highlights of his locking career.
“I became President of the society in 2013 and have hosted many dance events with my society executive team. I remained dancing outside the society and have entered numerous battles and participated in showcases with my mentors and friends all these years.”
Xarier returned to dance in May this year after suffering medical difficulties that meant he was unable to dance for almost two years. He says that having dance as an expression of feeling and emotions keeps him on top of his physical and mental health so that he is ready to face whatever the BizCover day may bring.
The growth of BizCover and the analytics team, in particular, is something Xarier looks forward to being a part of in the future. The constant stream of fresh ideas and passionate team members who work towards improving the business inspire him every day.
“It’s exciting to be part of the BizCover journey and I look forward to what lies ahead.”
