Thinking of taking on Cupid?

Thinking of taking on Cupid?

Make Sure you’re Covered.

Cupid has been at his game for centuries, and years on he is still very successful. But let’s face it – in this world there is always room for a bit more competition.

If you think you have what it takes to become a matchmaker and take on Cupid, you should be aware that this industry comes with its risks.

The right cover is essential to keeping your business protected.

1. Cupid, don’t you hear me?

As anyone who gives advice on a professional level will tell you; sometimes you get blamed for things outside of your control. And nothing is harder to control than love.

When your customers pay you for a service they are going to expect results, particularly if they are paying you big bucks. But we all know there are no guarantees when it comes to love and not all your clients will be successful.

A lesson learned by a few others who thought they could take on Cupid, like New York Matchmaker Richard Easton, who was successfully sued because after he failed to find love for a client. In Mr Easton’s case, he was sued for $US100,000. It could only take one case like that to put a serious dent in your business!

To protect yourself in this case, ensure you have the right Professional Indemnity Insurance. This covers any business that gives advice or professional services from any financial losses due to legal action like Mr Easton’s. While you won’t be covered for just an unhappy customer wanting a refund, you can be covered from serious lawsuits or claims from bringing down your business.

As a matchmaker you may also give direct advice to help people with their love lives. If some aren’t happy with this advice, or it leads to heartbreak and pain for them, it could also put you in some hot water.

2. I know when that hotline bling..

As a good matchmaker you are going to need a big database of clients, and you are more than likely going to have a website as well.

In today’s cyber world one of the major risks is cyber hacking.

Cyber Hacking is where criminals try to get hold of your precious customer information, or try and stop your site from working.

Just look at rather infamous case of Ashley Madison.

Hackers who objected to the moral ethics of the website stole the personal information of over 1,000,000 members. This included their contact details, banking information and private conversations. This led to its users filing a $567 million class action lawsuit against them.

Protect yourself from the consequences of a data breach with Cyber Insurance. Ensure you have cover to help you cover any extortion costs, fines and penalties, investigation and data recover costs, as well as business interruption costs.

3. Shot through the heart and you’re to blame..

Whether you are holding events, or having people come to your office for introductions, it will be more than likely that cupid’s arrow will strike at some point.

Your newly love-struck couples may be too busy gazing into each other’s eyes to actually be aware of what is going on around them.

A small trip on a cable could cause an injury to one of your love birds, requiring medical attention and time off work. This could see you at the end of a public liability claim.

Make sure you have the right Public Liability insurance to cover you for any bodily injury that might occur, or any damage you cause to their property.

So while Insurance isn’t the most romantic notion, make sure your business is covered adequately so it doesn’t end in heartbreak.
