World Entrepreneurs’ Day Customer Spotlight: Voula’s Kitchen

Here at BizCover we thrive on fostering entrepreneurship in the world of small business. Today, on World Entrepreneurs’ Day, we are showcasing one of our many unique customers and their business!

Steph and Katie run Voula’s Kitchen, a Brisbane based maker of Greek Sweets inspired by century-old recipes from their Grandmother, Voula.

As the name suggests, their grandmother Voula was very much the inspiration for them to start the business. Steph and Katie recall that “from a young age we found ourselves in our grandmother Voula’s kitchen helping her for countless hours; rolling biscuits and baking tray upon tray of baklava”.

It was only a few years ago that they started doing a weekly cooking class to spend quality time with their grandmother, as well as learn her tried and tested recipes. This quickly turned into what is now Voula’s Kitchen!

When asked what their favourite thing about their job is, Steph and Katie said it simply came down to being passionate about what they do, especially when it comes to being able to share recipes that have been in their family for generations. At the same time, they love to innovate on traditional Greek sweets with their own unique touch by incorporating new flavours and ideas – “with Voula’s approval of course!” they say.

The story they always go back to, that best highlights the work they do, is one where they reminisce about “those weekly cooking classes spent in her kitchen that taught us the importance that food has in bringing together families, friends and long-standing traditions.”

In keeping with the theme of World Entrepreneurs’ Day, Steph and Katie had some sage advice to offer for those looking to start their own business: “Do not be disheartened if you make mistakes along the way but always seek to do whatever you do well and master your skill.”

Not having a traditional storefront, Voula’s Kitchen currently supply their sole wholesale customer, Ashgrove Fresh Fruit Market with a fresh weekly delivery of their signature Almond Shortbreads and Traditional Baklava. The rest of their sweets can be found on their website.

For our lucky readers, Steph and Katie have a sweet deal for you: mention this article when purchasing some sweets you will get 2 complimentary Greek shortbreads!
