Why do Naturopaths and Herbalists need Professional Indemnity & Public Liability Insurance? 

Not only is it a requirement for all practicing full members of NHAA to hold a minimum of $2 million Professional Indemnity insurance (each claim), it’s something that every responsible health care provider should consider. 

Your service comes with an expectation of a high level of professionalism and specialised knowledge. If something goes wrong, you may be held liable.  Someone could make a claim against you for providing incorrect or ineffective treatments; giving negligent advice in relation to their wellbeing; or even make an allegation of professional misconduct.   

Professional Indemnity insurance* protects you against losses claimed by a third party due to alleged or actual negligence or errors in your professional services or advice.  Your Professional Indemnity insurance will meet the associated compensation payable to a third party together with your defence costs (which can include legal costs, investigator costs and expert fees). 

There is also the chance of a client could be injured due to slip or trip while at your premises then allege it is your fault.  Or maybe you spill something on their bag and damage it.  

Public Liability insurance* is. designed to provide protection for you and your business in the event a customer, supplier or a member of the public brings a claim against you due to their being injured or sustaining property damage as a result of your negligent business activities.   

And if that’s not enough to convince you, you must also hold Professional Indemnity insurance to be a recognised health fund provider, which allows your customers to claim a rebate on your services from their own health fund.
